There’s a reason for that. Earlier this week on Monday Night Raw, NXT Tag Team Champions the Street Profits made a surprise debut on the show, appearing in a pair of backstage segments. While the two did not wrestle a match, it was clear that there was something interesting going on as the team appeared out of nowhere. It turns out there was a logical purpose.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the Street Profits were called up for the sake of drawing in younger fans to the show. This is the same reason that Kofi Kingston flipped off Samoa Joe on SmackDown Live and why Corey Graves was swearing on commentary. At the moment, there are no plans on calling the Street Profits up full time and this is not considered their full time main roster debut.

Opinion: It makes enough sense and the show did feel edgy, but having small moments like these doesn’t help make up for the overarching problems. If you want to market to teenagers, you need something better than 49 year old Shane McMahon and Baron Corbin as the top villains. How many teenagers are going to be interested in seeing them get beaten up? It’s a nice idea, but there are other things that need to be fixed first.
