Game Changer: You Can Freeze Avocados!!

Avocados are simply adored all over the world, as they improve our overall health in an incredibly delicious way.

Dr. Josh Axe, DC, DMN, CNS says:

“Although the “official” avocado serving size is about one-fifth of a whole fruit (30 grams), according to certain studies the average consumption is about one-half an avocado at one time (68 grams). According to the USDA, this serving size provides the following nutritional value:

  • 113 calories
  • 4.6 g dietary fiber
  • 10 grams fat
  • 6 grams carbohydrates
  • only 0.2 gram total sugar
  • 14 milligrams vitamin K (19 percent DV)
  • 60 milligrams folate (15 percent DV)
  • 6 milligrams vitamin C (12 percent DV)
  • 343 milligrams potassium (10 percent DV)
  • 2 milligrams pantothenic acid (10 percent DV)
  • 0.4 milligram vitamin B6 (9 percent DV)
  • 1.3 milligrams vitamin E (7 percent DV)
  • 19.5 milligrams magnesium (6 percent DV)

Moreover, avocados include the following essential nutrients: monounsaturated fats, carotenoids, fat-soluble vitamins A, E, and K, high amounts of fiber, protein, water-soluble vitamins B and C, important trace minerals, phytonutrients, folate, and antioxidant phytochemicals (such as beta-sitosterol, glutathione and lutein).

This clearly explains the countless health benefits of these fruits. Yet, we often face difficulties when it comes to their storage, as it seems that there is not a simple way to preserve their freshness longer.

We avoid keeping them in the freezer as they lose their texture and become soft, or cutting them open as the flesh will become brown almost immediately. Avocados contain an enzyme known as polyphenol oxidase, which reacts with oxygen, and the surface of the flesh quickly turns brown.

Some people spray lemon juice on the surface of avocados to keep them fresh, some refrigerate them at a higher temperature, or keep them in bags or envelopes, but apparently, nothing of this works.  Therefore, we often avoid buying avocados in bulk.

Yet, there is a perfectly effective way to freeze these tasty fruits and make them last up to 4 solid months!

Here is all you need:

  • Avocados
  • A straw
  •  A sharp kitchen knife
  • A Ziploc bag

Instructions:

Cut the avocado in half, going around the seed. Remove the seed, and keep it for future use. You can cook it and reap its numerous health benefits.

Put each half in the Ziploc bag, seal, but leave a little area for the straw to go in.

Stick in the straw, and suck all air from the bag to vacuum-seal it. Take the straw our slowly, and seal the bag.

Place the bag in the freezer.

If you have managed to extract all the air, and there is nothing that can oxidize the fruit, your avocados can be kept in the freezer for over four months.

Pretty simple, but impressive, isn’t it?
